Things to Do With Paper Cutters

There are many projects and uses for paper cutters in schools, at home and at the office. As well, there are many different types of paper cutters on the market; there are manual, electric and hydraulic paper cutters, guillotine cutters, business card cutters, rotary trimmers and stack cutters. Those are just a few of the different types of paper cutters available, but more than likely, you will normally choose the cutter that best suits your project. So, what can you do with paper cutters? There are some ideas listed below, for starters, and then you can decide what type of cutter you will need.

General office papers can be cut with paper cutters whether you need to cut one sheet or 700. Most of the daily cutting tasks in the office can be done with a guillotine paper cutter much like the ones found in schools. If your office is accustomed to cutting high volumes of paper at a time, a better bet would be to buy a stack cutter. These types of cutters allow more sheets of paper to be cut at one time.

Business cards can be made with hand-held cutters or tabletop guillotine cutters, however, they even have a specific type of business card cutter available for you to purchase. These cutters can cut a page of laser printed cards into many individual business cards in just a small amount of time. This could potentially save your company a lot of money, time and effort in the long run.

Make employee badges for all of your workers by using a paper cutter. A good guillotine paper cutter will do this job easily for you. Your badges will be cut with clean edges ready to laminate and hand out. If you have already printed several on a single sheet of paper and laminated them, you can still use a guillotine cutter to cut them into individual badges.

Photographs and memorabilia to use in photo albums is a good use for paper cutters. Making pictures fit into your album will require accurate dimensions so that the edges aren't overlapping or too long for the page. Choose a paper cutter with an attached ruler in order to get a precise measurement and size that fits perfectly.

Scrapbooking can be another project where you will need the aid of paper cutters. The craft store sells many different forms of paper cutters to be used in scrapbooking like straight, curvy and zigzag styles. You should first decide on a design plan for your pages and then get the paper cutters necessary to achieve the look.

Paper cutters can also be used when making sale advertisements and advertising flyers for your business or store. The size and shape of your signs or flyers can be creatively designed with special paper cutters, if you choose. However, the guillotine paper cutter will give your flyers a professional look with clean, crisp edges. Brochures and pamphlets can be crafted with the use of paper cutters, too.

Another thing that you can do with paper cutters is to cut wrapping paper when wrapping gifts at Christmas or other occasions. A manual or battery-operated handheld cutter will work well and is less strenuous than using everyday scissors.

Make your own greeting cards. You can use paper cutters to make your own Christmas or Birthday cards by printing two or more on a sheet of heavy paper or construction-like paper. People love to receive items that are hand-made and personalized because you spent not only money, but your time as well.

An additional item that you may want to use while you are making any of the above projects is a corner rounder. Corner rounders come in sizes from a simple and small craft-style rounder to a higher-capacity industrial corner rounder for larger uses.

A Car Brake Repair Primer

The security of your car is vital, whether it is a Mercedes or a Mazda even the safest vehicle on earth can have brake failure. If your cars brakes dont work properly, the consequences could be fatal. Thus, the brakes are probably the most important part of your vehicle. Car brake repair knowledge is always good to have because you never know if or when your cars brake system will let you down. If this happens while youre driving lets say in the desert, miles away from the nearest garage, you should be able to

  • Perform a brake inspection and troubleshoot the problem
  • Know what it takes to do a car brakes repair
  • If possible, do the fix yourself
  • If not, be able to describe the problem to someone who is able to repair your automobile brakes.

To become able to perform the work listed above, the first thing you need to know is how a cars brake system works.

A drum system is utilizing hydraulic pressure to press a pad against a brake drum to slow down the speed of the vehicle. Here is how it works:

  • press the brake pedal
  • the piston in the master cylinder sends pressure via the brake lines held by the brake shoe to the wheel cylinders inside the brake drum
  • the friction caused by the shoe pressed against the drum is stopping the wheel from turning

A brake drum is a flat-topped and heavy cylinder, that you normally find somewhere between the wheel rim and the drive wheel. When you press the brake pedal, the friction material held by the brake shoes is pressed against the brake drum. This will slow the rotation of the wheels. A wheel cylinder contains pistons utilizing hydraulic power from the master cylinder to force the brake pads against the brake drum.

Another brake system, called disk brake system is using hydraulic pressure to press a pad against the rotor. This way it slows down the vehicle. Here is how it works:

  • press the brake pedal
  • the piston in the master cylinder is activated and sends pressure via the brake lines to the calliper
  • when the pad makes contact with the rotor, friction is created and this stops the wheel from turning

A rotor is nothing but a circular plate that is gripped by the brake pads for slowing down the vehicle. A brake pad is a pad made of friction material. When pressed against the rotor it stops the wheel from turning. This pad is held by the calliper, which straddles the rotor by using hydraulic pressure from the brake lines. With help from internal pistons it forces the brake pads against the rotors.

Performing this process, the breaking system needs brake fluid. The master cylinder provides this by distributing the brake fluid under pressure, to the entire breaking system of your vehicle.

The description above gives you the knowledge of how two different car brake systems work. These are the first things you need to know when troubleshooting and fixing any problems regarding your vehicles brakes. Brake problems can occur in a Cadillac, a VW or even in the safest vehicle brand. There are plenty free resources online which give you step by step instructions on fixing any brake problems that your vehicle may incur. I recommend that you go online and do a search for car auto brake repair. Youll be amazed of the list of brake fix resources that will appear within seconds.

The Secret to Wisdom With Age

The older I get the better I understand why they say old people are wise. The reason most old people are wise is they have made that mistake before. Life is very interesting and people who think they know it all are probably in trouble.

If you are like most people, you have faced some serious decisions in your life where you had to make a choice and decide what the "best" thing to do was. The best book I ever read was by F. Scott Peck called The Road Less Traveled. I probably read that book four times and every time I read it I learned something new about life and about myself.

A few of the salient points I remember in that book is the explanation of how human beings constantly keep making the same mistake over and over again. As I recall the example given was of a man walking down a street or sidewalk and stepping in a big hole every time he walked that path. Eventually he learned the consequences of stepping in that hole and he began to walk around the hole. That is the wisdom of old age in my opinion. You know the consequences of taking unwise action because you have "stepped in the hole" repeatedly. You can tell younger people to avoid that mistake because you have made that mistake so many times.

The other thing I learned is when you come to the fork in the road and have to decide what is the best road to travel, Peck tells you don't worry so much because the decision you make is the right decision. I struggled with that concept. After reading it many times I realized that he is correct. If intelligent human beings carefully consider their choices the choice they make is the right choice. If you accept that premise and don't look back, you will be much happier. That decision making process is at the core of his title the road less traveled. The one other quote I keep on my computer which I still at age 60 have to learn to heed is" You will be wise not to seek too much from others". I don't know who to attribute that quote to but it has a lot of truth in it and if you understand it you won't be disappointed nearly as much. The one other quote is" When you get to the goal line, always carry the ball across yourself" The obvious wisdom in those quotes is you are responsible for your own decisions and happiness so you need to be the one to make the final decision.

I have tried to teach that wisdom to younger people but they listen as well as I did, which is probably why they will eventually "step in that hole'" a few more times.

Home Security Doors

Home security doors keep out those potential burglars no matter where you live. However, it is important for those living in high crime areas to have these in order to keep them and their family safe. In areas such as these, deterrents such as alarms, deadbolts, motion detector lights, and security cameras may need a little help.

Why home security doors?

Home security doors are not meant to make your home pretty. They are meant to keep the occupants of your home safe. This means that you may have to sacrifice having those glass doors installed in the name of safety. You may have to settle with a wood door that is sturdy. This means you have to make sure you choose a wood that is strong such as oak. Yes, some wood doors look pretty, but those are usually the doors that burglars can easily break into.

As for the price, many will find that the price is above what they would normally pay for a door. That means individuals may install deadbolts on their doors from top to bottom. Yes, this may keep burglars out, but what if you needed to get out in a hurry? Better yet, what if you needed emergency personnel to come in? They would not be able to get to you in a life threatening situation with so many deadbolts on the door.

Choosing home security doors

The process of choosing the right home security doors can be somewhat difficult. It isn't because there are not high quality doors out there, but because of the fact that there are so many to choose from. One type to consider is one that has a very complicated lock mechanism. These are usually locks that can only be opened with keys and provide an adequate barricade for intruders. Doors with keyless entry, however, can actually be compromised by burglars.

However, you may find that a steel door will present you with adequate security. These are the strongest doors that you can buy. You will find that these home security doors can fit the overall look of your home because they come in many different designs. Just be sure not to go too fancy because the burglars may think you're using a big fancy door to protect your super expensive belongings.

As for where you can get these doors, you can check out home improvement stores both online and offline to find the home security doors that will fit your particular style and your particular needs. You'll find that it will both enhance your home and protect your family.

5 Key Features to Consider in Shower Curtains

Most people find themselves buying a shower curtain that fails to live up to their expectations simply because they fail to take some time out to review some very important features. They regard this item as insignificant. In all my reviews and articles about home improvement especially shower curtains, I have always emphasized their importance and I still stand by my previous writings.

Well, let me not take too much of your time. Below I quickly go through these 5 points and explain them briefly as I mention them. Read them all and you will be glad you did.

Consider the shower curtain color

First of all, it is important to buy a color that will suite your bathroom decor, which includes wall paining, mirrors, rugs, mats or other accessories. For example, you can buy a black shower curtain if your bathroom is generally white. You can buy a brown one if you want to feel like home every time you walk in. Try purple for a peaceful and tranquil bathroom.

Hanging reinforcement

While some curtains are hookless, there are those that need hooks and rings. This means while you consider the bigger item - curtain, do also consider the kind of hooks and rings you will buy. You can find some simply straight forward ones and also some you can use to add some humor and create a fun a light spirited room.

Consider the fabric of the curtain

You also need to consider the fabrics. While Some fabric shower curtain are very tightly woven and perfect for cold weather you can use some to really put the look of your bathroom together. You can buy a cotton rich one that is made of cotton and polyester, nylon or 100% polyester. The options are vast really but with careful consideration and comparison, you will eventually find one that is best for you.

Must be water repellent

This is the basic functional feature, which can be forgotten in the mist of trying focusing on simply beauty. Make sure that you buy one that is water repellent. It must have a line or if not a liner then make sure it has a water repellent finish. You can check out a 100% cotton curtain because it does not need liners.

Machine wash and dry

Your shower curtain must not be very difficult to manage so when out shopping, do make a comparison based on its flexibility in terms of washing method is an important factor. So make sure you buy one that is written, machine wash and dry.

Where to start looking

I have tried to keep this as short as possible without taking away its value. I do recommend that you now take the next step and visit this best shower curtains website for more information and recommendations.

Caring For Antique Jewelry and Metals

Jewelry and other metals are an important part of most antique collections. Many pieces of jewelry have been handed down from generation to generation as family heirlooms, while others may have drawn attention at an auction or store window. Since a great deal of antiques contain some type of metal, it is important to learn proper care techniques.

Gold is one of the most common type of metal found in antique jewelry. A karat rating is used to determine the true gold count in a piece, which also affects its softness or hardness. Although softer gold tarnishes the easiest, both types are prone to scratches. Abrasive cleaners should never be used to polish gold, especially if it contains gems or stones of any kind. For at-home cleaning, using a baby toothbrush dipped in warm, soapy water is ideal.

Silver should be kept in a cool, dark location and wrapped in acid-free paper for long-term storage. Jewelry that is silver-plated is less durable and great care should be taken not to remove the finish when cleaning. Silver should only be polished with a soft cloth, which should remove tarnish and add shine. It should never be soaked in water. For stubborn marks, professional jewelry cleaning is always an option for any type of jewelry.

Throughout the years, many design techniques have been used on silver antiques. Embossing creates raised details, such as flowers or patterns, by pushing the shape out from the inside. Piercing, a method of producing parallel lines, originated in the 18th Century, while engraving requires the removal of silver pieces to create a detailed effect.

If the jewelry contains precious stones, the casings should be treated with extra care. In antique pieces, the casings sometimes weaken over time and the slightest movement can release a stone and significantly diminish the value of a piece.

Many antiques are made of pewter, which is composed mostly of tin. In earlier times, only the rich owned pewter pieces, although lead was usually added as a component. While pewter provides a unique, silver-type finish, it is susceptible to stains from certain foods and cannot be used at high temperatures.

Pewter requires little cleaning, since it doesn't tarnish. Depending on the finish of a particular piece, various polishing techniques are used. The shiny finish of polished pewter only needs to be cleaned once or twice per year, using a soft-cloth and commercial polish. Satin pewter contains a duller finish and can be cleaned with soap and warm water, as can the dark finish of oxidized pewter.
